From Cracked Stucco to a Properly Rebuilt Chimney
What started as a routine chimney sweep turned into a much larger discovery.
During service, our technicians noticed cracking in the acrylic stucco exterior of this wood-framed chimney chase. While exterior cracking may not always look serious at first glance, it can be a warning sign that water has been getting behind the stucco system. Because this was a wood-framed chimney, we knew there was a real possibility of hidden water damage behind the surface.
Once the stucco was removed, our concerns were confirmed.
There was water damage behind the exterior finish, and the chimney needed more than a cosmetic repair. Estates Chimney removed the existing stucco system, removed the damaged sheathing, and carefully exposed the chimney structure so the problem could be corrected properly.
From there, our team rebuilt the exterior of the chimney and replaced any framing that had been compromised. We then installed the proper drainage and protection system, including a weep system, rain screen, EZ Bead, proper flashing, wire lath, base coat, and finish stucco application.
The result was not just a better-looking chimney. It was a properly rebuilt exterior system designed to manage water, protect the structure, and provide a clean, long-lasting finish.
